With the #slugging hashtag having over 590 million views on Tik Tok, it’s no wonder more people are asking,
If you're asking yourself that right now, then read on. This short blog will answer all your questions and teach you how to get started #slugging! So first off, What is slugging? Slugging is a new name for an older practice that Korean, Afro-Caribbean and European beauty practices have been doing variations of for generations. Slugging involves coating your face (and sometimes hands/feet/eyelids/lips) with a thick, often petrolatum-based, product, or a ‘cleaner’, petrolatum-free option overnight. This balm then acts as a physical barrier on top of your existing skin care to prevent moisture loss.
Slugging is best for people prone to dry and dehydrated skin, and as winter approaches, may be more common. With cooler temperatures, the skin barrier can use a little bit of extra help, which is where slugging comes into play! Keep in mind, for those prone to breakouts or oily skin, slugging too often or even at all may increase acne and breakouts
While many slug with petroleum jelly, these are byproducts of petroleum oil and can be contaminated. Why drill for oil when you can use Nature's Wonderbalm instead? Eu'Genia is the clean alternative to petroleum jelly; we're an emollient that softens and repairs skin. Eu'Genia products are 100% plant based and include pure unrefined shea butter followed by at max five ingredients (always vegan and cruelty free). You don’t have to worry about reading a list of ingredients that is longer than this blog!
Cleanse your skin.
Exfoliate for extra smoothness (optional)
Apply your favorite moisturizer.
Time to slug! Take your balm and soften it in your hands before evenly covering your face. The balm will act as a protectant layer, leaving your favorite moisturizer to do its job while you sleep!
In the morning, cleanse your skin to remove any leftover residue and you are ready to go!
