We know it is super important to know exactly what is going on your skin, which is why we keep our ingredients as simple as possible. Rest easy knowing that what is in the tin and on your skin is there for a reason! Read on to learn more.

*note that quantities vary depending on the product; our dermatological strength has only one ingredient, 100% shea butter.

Our main ingredient, you guessed it, Shea butter!

What is it? Shea butter comes from the kernels within the shea fruit and works like an emollient* to soften or smooth your skin.

*Emollients are ingredients in skin care products that form a film on your skin’s outer layer to soothe dryness or irritation. (Sometimes referred to as barrier creams).

Why do we use it? Shea butter is well tolerated across skin types, distributes nutrients, absorbs quickly without being greasy, and contains vitamins A E F K.*

Next up, shea oil!

Shea nuts

What is it?  Shea oil is a natural oil that is extracted from the shea fruit, and works as a carrier oil.*

* carrier oils are very important for use with essential oils, because essential oils are never supposed to be applied undiluted to the skin.

Why do we use it? In addition to being a great carrier oil, shea oil also allows for deep absorption that penetrates the inner layers of skin, and is a good source of vitamins A, E, and C.

Moringa oil

Moringa seeds on a white backgroundWhat is it? Like shea butter and shea oil, our moringa oil comes from Ghana. The oil is cold-pressed from the seeds of the mo

ringa oleifera tree, sometimes known as the miracle plant!

Why do we use it?

  • The antioxidants in moringa oil actually act as a plant based preservative, thereby increasing our shelf life naturally.

  • Moringa is also a good source of oleic acid which helps regulate the natural lipid barrier of the skin (aka the moisture barrier).

  • Because the makeup of moringa oil is similar to the oil your skin creates naturally, it is great at helping balance your body’s oils without feeling greasy.

  • Fatty Acids: smoothes the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

  • Its anti-inflammatory properties work to slow aging by keeping skin clear, minimizing sun spots and bringing out the natural glow of your skin.

Baobab oil:

What is it?: The oil is cold-pressed from the seeds of the baobab tree.

Why do we use it?: Another wonderful African secret, this is a great source of omega fatty acids as well as vitamins D, A, C, E, and K.*

  • Rich in omega fatty acids 3, 6 and 9 in general as well as linoleic acid in particular; studies have shown this to help speed up the process of wound healing.

Scented essential oils*:

  • We do not use fragrance, we use essential oils to ensure no hidden ingredients and chemicals are added in.

*Not all of our products include essential oils, unscented products are also available.

Vitamins:

  • A: Helps to speed up healing and support the skin's immune system. Because vitamin A helps unclog pores, it actually helps prevent breakouts (it’s a myth that all oils are bad!!!).
  • C: connection to collagen production makes it an important aid in the fight against the appearance of scarring, dull skin, and sagging.
  • D: normalizes cell turnover while counteracting environmental damage. Its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties also make it great at helping reduce the appearance of acne.

    • E: An antioxidant that reduces inflammation of skin particularly due to UV exposure and increases skin cell regeneration thereby helping alleviate the appearance of scarring and stretch marks.

    • F: A fatty acid that lessens water loss in the skin and reduces the appearance of dermatitis and psoriasis induced swelling.

    • K: Protects collagen in the skin as well as minimizes the appearance of blemishes and under-eye circles.
